Summarize Platos famous Parable of the Cave from The Republic. Summary of the story Parable of the cave is a philosophical analogy from the Republic by Plato which was written around 380 Before Christ. It explores the theme of perception, philosophy and the benefit of education. The allegory takes the form of a conversation between Glaucon, Plato’s sibling, his mentor and teacher, Socrates. The conversation between Glaucon and Socrates is most likely not real and composed by Plato, it is unclear whether the parable originated with Socrates or if Plato is utilizing his teacher as a representative†¦show more content†¦The other prisoners would see the blindness of the freed person and left to believe that it the idea of leaving the cave is risky and damaging hence should always be avoided. For that reason, they would make a conclusion that anyone who tries to force them out of the cave should not be tolerates at all so as to avoid the risky journey out into the sunlight. But as the eyes of the freed prisoner get used to sunlight, he would gradually sta rt seeing more vividly. Therefore, he sees himself lucky for having there rare chance to see reality and feel sorry for his colleagues who are still held captive in a dark cave. My reflection of the story This story is an excellent representation of human being’s desire to educate and seeks for self betterment. The parable suggests people are only as educated as their environments and may not be able to learn without teachings and guidance. Personally, I understand that the freed men in the chains are philosophers who are looking for the real knowledge and truth concerning something that is unknown by others. As far as philosophy is concerned, I strongly believe that this parable is a description of Plato’s firm belief that the world as seen by people is different from how it is in reality.
